Tips for Managing a Large Garden

Having some private outdoor space attached to your property is always desirable, as spending time in your garden during the summer months is a lovely way to pass the time in the sunshine. However, if you want your garden to stay looking good, it does require maintenance work, and this can be challenging even when you only have a small area to manage. So, how can you keep on top of a large garden? Here are a few tips to help you out.

Hire Professionals

One of the easiest ways to help maintain a large garden is by hiring some help. Even if you love to spend hours tending to your flowerbeds or vegetable patch, it is not always possible to do everything by yourself. When necessary, hire professionals to do things like cut back your trees and hedges, mow the lawn or clean out a water feature if you have one. You could also look into hiring people who can pressure wash your patios and other masonry features in your garden to get rid of dirt and grime. Art in Construction is a great example of a company that can provide this service and make your garden appear brand-new.

Get the Right Equipment

Even if you do have professionals coming in to help you with some of the maintenance work, it is always smart to have some tools available to use in case they forget anything, or their tools break. In addition to this, having even basic gardening equipment, such as a weeding fork and lawnmower, will come in handy and allow you to keep on top of things on the days your gardener is not there. Wheelbarrows are also particularly useful for large gardens and will allow you to move things from one end to the other with ease.

Divide It into Sections

You might find it easier to manage if you divide your garden into sections. One area can be a seating area with your garden furniture and BBQ (a patio or decking would be ideal for this arrangement). Another area you can use as an allotment if you are interested in growing vegetables and herbs at home – you could even install a greenhouse. Beyond this, there could be a large lawn, which is ideal if you have kids as they have space to run around and play. Although it will still be a lot to manage, you might find it easier to focus on one section at a time.

Choose Low Maintenance Plant Life

All plants will need looking after, but some are more demanding of your attention than others. If you do not have a lot of time to spend tending to your garden, choose low-maintenance plants that do not need a lot of pruning and watering. There are plenty of colorful blooms that can do well without constant care, as well as lots of vibrant leafy greens that will make your garden look lush with minimal effort.

If you have a large garden and are worried about how to keep on top of it, consider the tips above and see if they can help you keep it looking great without taking up a lot of your time.
